See Calendar for Testing dates.
Students advance in rank by performing the required skills for their belt rank at a formal testing before a panel of certified instructors who judge their performance and recommend a change to the new rank or a no change. At a testing, one or more black belt students may also be testing for instructor certification.
Second degree black belt and below students and students testing for instructor trainee will test at a local or regional testing. Local and regional testings are held at the end of each testing cycle. There are 6 testing cycles per year, every two months (February, April, June, August, October, and December).
Testings are conducted on the first Friday of every other month, starting in February. All students who have successfully completed the minimum age and minimum number of required training hours, and are recommended by their instructor, are eligible to participate in a testing. Other regional Taekwondo America schools may test on other weekends. Students who cannot attend our testing may test at one of the regional school testings (with Mr. Deese's approval).
Students testing for 3rd degree black belt and above must test at a national testing. National testing are held three times each year: during national tournaments and at black belt training camp.
Testing students must wear a complete, clean, and pressed approved uniform, bring a complete set of sparring equipment (if required), and arrive 15 minutes prior to their starting time.
General Notes
Parents or legal guardians are required to attend testing with minors.
All students must stay at testing until their division is completed and formally dismissed.
Adult males are requested to stay and hold boards for the red and black belt tests.
Visitors are welcome to view and photograph/video the testing. There is no attendance fee.
On a designated day, during the next week after a testing, an award ceremony will be held to award students who successfully completed their tests. Our ceremony is normally held at 5:30pm on the Wednesday after testing.
